ACT4CAP27 supports next-generation expertise in agricultural policy modelling
The ACT4CAP27 project contributed to the 2026 Applied Data Analysis: Introduction to and Application of the Partial Equilibrium Model CAPRI in Market and Policy Analysis course, supporting the development of analytical skills needed to assess future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) pathways.
The full-semester Master’s course, organised within the Agricultural Economics programme at Humboldt University of Berlin, ran from 16 April to 9 July 2026 and awarded 6 ECTS credits. Around 10 participants representing approximately six countries took part in the hybrid training, combining lectures, hands-on exercises and collaborative group work. The final examination will take place in August 2026.
The course was organised by the Thünen Institute in collaboration with Humboldt University of Berlin and the CAPRI network. It provided participants with practical experience in applying the CAPRI (Common Agricultural Policy Regionalised Impact Modelling System) model to agricultural market and policy analysis, including scenario development, policy impact assessment and interpretation of modelling results.
ACT4CAP27 contributed to the course through expertise related to the application of modelling tools for assessing policy options and future CAP developments. The project’s contribution supported discussions on how integrated analytical frameworks can help stakeholders explore complex interactions between agricultural policies, markets, environmental objectives and global drivers.
By connecting students and emerging researchers with current approaches in agricultural economic modelling, the course contributed to ACT4CAP27’s objective of enhancing analytical capacity for future CAP policy assessment. Building a skilled community of model users and researchers is essential for ensuring that advanced analytical tools can support transparent, robust and policy-relevant assessments.
The ACT4CAP27 contribution complemented BrightSpace inputs within the course. While BrightSpace shared insights on sustainability pathways and climate policy analysis within a Safe and Just Operating Space for European agriculture, ACT4CAP27 focused on the development and application of analytical capacities supporting future CAP pathways.
Together, the two Horizon Europe projects demonstrated the value of collaborative knowledge exchange: linking research results, modelling expertise and training activities to support the next generation of agricultural policy analysts.
Through initiatives such as this course, ACT4CAP27 continues to promote capacity building, cooperation among modelling communities and the uptake of improved analytical approaches for evidence-informed agricultural policymaking.
