Workshop Recap: AGMEMOD Model & Scenario Building | 17–20 June 2025, The Hague

From 17 to 20 June 2025, researchers and modellers from across Europe convened in The Hague for a hands-on training workshop on the AGMEMOD (AGricultural MEmber States MODelling) system. Organised by Wageningen Social & Economic Research and the Thünen Institute of Market Analysis, and supported by the Horizon Europe projects ACT4CAP27, BrightSpace, and TOOLS4CAP, the event brought together experienced and early-career participants working on EU agricultural policy modelling.

Over the course of four days, the workshop combined interactive learning, technical exercises, and plenary sessions to explore the structure, capabilities, and policy applications of AGMEMOD. Participants were introduced to the model’s structure, data needs, and equation sets, and engaged in scenario building and simulation tasks. Special attention was given to modelling CAP 2023 policies and beyond, integrating sustainability goals from EU strategies such as the Green Deal and the EU’s new vision for agriculture and food.

The workshop successfully strengthened technical capacity across institutions and promoted collaboration within the AGMEMOD consortium. It also fostered discussion on upcoming policy-relevant applications of the model, including potential linkages with scenario work and transition pathways in ACT4CAP27 and BrightSpace. The event concluded with a roundtable on ongoing initiatives and opportunities for future joint work, reinforcing the model’s role as a key tool for agricultural policy analysis in Europe.
