Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) - Technical University of Madrid is the largest Spanish technological university. UPM is an internationally leading centre in agroforestry research, with a strong commitment towards the transfer of knowledge to society. The Research Centre for the Management of Agricultural and Environmental Risks (CEIGRAM-UPM https://ceigram.upm.es/en/) focuses at risk assessment, including biophysical risks, sustainability assessment, climate change impacts and adaptive management in agriculture and water resources, and evaluation of agrifood and rural policies.
UPM team in ACT4CAP27 has expertise in integrated assessment of agricultural and environmental policies, bioeconomic modelling and complex systems modelling. UPM leads WP5 on modelling infrastructure and capacity building and contributes to all WPs. UPM will coordinate capacity building activities to train newcomers into model-based research and to involve policymakers and end users in policy assessments. Furthermore, UPM will develop a prototype of a complex network model for global food value chains, Furthermore, UPM will contribute to scenario analysis and will lead the development of the ACT4CAP27 baseline.
ACT4CAP27 project information on the partner’s website in English or in national language:
Professor of bioeconomic analysis at UPM and senior researcher at CEIGRAM-UPM. She is largely experienced in quantitative analysis of agrifood policies, development of bioeconomic modelling tools for the integrated assessment of environmental and agricultural policies, agricultural sustainability as well as the analysis of food-water-energy nexus in a context of global change. She has been principal investigator in several EU research projects (GoNEXUS, SIM4NEXUS, SUPREMA,…).
Full professor at the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and a faculty member of the Ph.D. program in Complex Systems. His research focuses on complex systems applied to ecology, biomedicine, and economics. He has published over 50 research articles and participated in more than 25 European and national projects. He is a review editor for Frontiers in Complex Systems and a member of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics.
PhD Researcher at the Department of Agricultural Economics and CEIGRAM-UPM, currently focused on bioeconomic analysis and the evaluation of agricultural and environmental policies using systemic approaches. He has contributed to several H2020 projects related to the governance of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) nexus. Additionally, he has experience evaluating rural development programs through the assessment of sustainability indicators.
Alberto Usero holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, with a Master’s degree in Official Statistics and Social and Economic Indicators from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has experience in the production of official statistics of material flow accounts (MFA) elaborated by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and in the areas of rural development supporting the Centralized Management Financial Instrument (IFGC) at Ministry of Agriculture.
