Under the motto ‘Reorienting agri-food chains to hinder climate change and food security threats’, the 188th seminar of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) took place on 12 and 13 September 2024 in Chania, Greece
ACT4CAP27 related work was presented by colleagues from the Thünen Institute:
- In an analysis, Davit Stepanyan showed that the increase in mineral fertiliser prices in the EU as a result of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Measures (EU-CBAM) will reduce the use of mineral nitrogen fertilisers in the EU by 22 per cent. This would reduce total agricultural emissions by 21 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2). However, the scientist does not expect a significant shift in emissions. The differences in emissions intensity between the EU and the rest of the world compared to those in animal production are significantly smaller.
- Ferike Thom presented her research on linking sectoral models such as CAPRI with data on individual dietary behaviour. Combining and consolidating information from different sources helps to better understand human consumption patterns. This enables better dietary recommendations and more accurate simulations of dietary changes (e.g. the Planetary Health Diet).
