21st ERDN Conference | 23–25 September 2025, Bucharest, RO

The 21st European Rural Development Network (ERDN) Conference, under the theme “Food Systems Transition for Sustainable Rural Development,” will take place from 23–25 September 2025 in Bucharest, Romania. This annual gathering offers a vital platform for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss how shifting food systems can support rural communities, especially amid demographic changes, climate impacts, and economic pressures.

Building on previous editions—such as the 2024 Vilnius conference on “Green Transformation in Rural Areas”—this year’s event will focus on the strategic transformation of food value chains through balanced policy, innovation, and sustainability-driven design. Participants are encouraged to explore:

  • Integrative approaches to food policy and rural development
  • Strategies to enhance rural resilience, economic equity, and quality of life
  • Innovative governance models and community-led solutions

Organised by the European Rural Development Network, the conference invites contributions across a wide range of disciplines, including agricultural economics, rural sociology, environmental science, and regional development. Participants will benefit from expert panels, field visits, and networking opportunities designed to generate actionable insights for rural revitalisation.
